Dear USES community,
Today our hearts are broken as we grieve for the victims of the horrific acts of gun violence at the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, the racially motivated shooting in Buffalo, NY, and the shooting at a California church earlier this month. Tragedies like these have become too common in our country, and as a community, we must stand up, speak up, and come together to denounce violence and hate.
Acts of senseless violence and extremism remind us of the importance of addressing racism and gun reform laws. We must keep educating ourselves, having tough conversations, and calling in and calling out our government for change. Mental Health, Racial Equity, and Gun Reform should be at the forefront of our work as community leaders, parents, and citizens of this country-- we must create a world where all children have access to basic needs and feel safe in their schools and neighborhoods!
At USES, the health and safety of our children and families is our priority, and we remain committed to ensuring they have a nurturing environment to grow, learn, and thrive. Now, more than ever, our work is essential as we must fight to create a new normal where fear, violence, and hate, are replaced by safety, opportunity, and belonging. Join USES as we strive for change.
Below are some resources and ideas on how to talk to and support our children during this time.
Our hearts are with all families affected by these senseless acts of violence.
In community,
Jerrell Cox
