Why Volunteers Matter

On Tuesday, January 10, USES held a volunteer appreciation event for our Workforce Readiness tutors and in-class assistants. These volunteers (pictured below) form a support network for our students, providing one-on-one coaching in the face of challenging academic material.

Melody Valdes, our Volunteer Coordinator for Workforce Readiness, shared words of thanks at the event: “I want you all to know that your time matters, that your work is making a difference in the life of our students, and that their success is due in large part to you.”

Two Workforce Readiness students, Theresita Marchulaitis and Robert Handy, also spoke at the event and thanked the volunteers for helping them to overcome their fears and achieve academic confidence. Each volunteer was presented with a signed Certificate of Appreciation.

Our volunteers truly are neighbors helping neighbors. Their service is a part of a 125-year-old legacy at USES, as they utilize their time and knowledge to extend a helping hand to those in need. USES wouldn't be the same without their compassion, generosity, and effort . As Melody shared at the end of her remarks last Tuesday, in the famous words of Dr. Seuss, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It is not.”

Thank you, USES Volunteers!
