Art is important to youth development from the time they are born. One might ask themselves: How do the arts impact play? What difference do the arts make in the community? How do the arts support career skills? What role do the arts play in literacy development? Can the arts be linked to well-being?

These are just some of the questions you will find answers to on the South End Window Walk: Youth Arts Advocacy displays. Read and witness the importance of art in education to better understand how arts based methods prepare students for achievement and later success in life. Youth work will be on display April 29 – May 4th in several retail and community window spaces including:

-United South End Settlements’ Harriet Tubman House, 566 Columbus Ave;

-MakeShift, 549 Columbus Ave;

-South End Library, 685 Tremont Street;

-Walgreens, 1603 Washington St;

-Coco Baby 1636 Washington St

-Cambridge Trust Bank, 565 Tremont St.

The displays are viewable from outside at street level, so adults, children and art lovers of all ages can walk by at any time of day.You can also participate in ArtWeek by showing your support - just use the hashtag #myartweek

Participation is made possible with the support of The South End Arts Education Collaborative.  The Collaborative is a group of parents, arts organizations, educators and community leaders that believe all youth should have access to the arts in order to engage students in learning and to develop 21st Century skills needed for achievement. Join us as we build a neighborhood movement and raise awareness for the importance of art in education. Special thanks to United South End Settlements, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Center for the Arts and the Hurley School.

The South End Window Walk is just one of the 60+ creative experiences happening in and around the city during Spring ArtWeek Boston. The full schedule of offerings is now available at artweekboston.org
