Richard Webb

As a Camp Hale alum, Richard brings a unique perspective and deep-rooted passion to his role as Camp Director. Having previously served as Assistant Director, he is very familiar with the magic of Camp Hale. We're excited to welcome him back and see the positive impact he'll have on our campers.

Q: Where are you from/where did you grow up?
A
: I was born and raised in Dorchester, Massachusetts. Growing up in the city, I didn't have much access to nature. Then I found Camp Hale, and it was like a whole new world opened up. I learned to appreciate the power of nature and how it could challenge and inspire me.

Q: How were you first introduced to Camp Hale?
A: My mom signed me up with my cousins at the age of 8. To be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect. But that first summer at Camp Hale opened my eyes to a world of possibilities--adventure, friendship, and a sense of belonging I hadn't experienced before. I was hooked from the beginning!

Q: What are a few of your most cherished memories from being a camper at Camp Hale?
A: Where do I even begin? Every day at Camp Hale was an adventure! I'll never forget the council fires, the feeling of accomplishment after a challenging hike, and the exhilaration of that first mile swim. But you know, the best part wasn't just the activities. It was the friendships. We were a team, pushing each other to try new things, celebrating our successes, and always having each other's backs. Camp Hale taught me the importance of teamwork, how to bounce back after setbacks, and the incredible feeling of stepping outside my comfort zone. Those lessons are still with me today.

Q: What are you most excited about in this new role?
A:
Honestly, I'm pinching myself! Coming back to Camp Hale feels like coming home. This place shaped me--as a camper and as a leader. Now, to be able to give back to the community that gave me so much…it's truly an honor. I want to make sure every camper has the same incredible experiences I did. I'm eager to bring everything I've learned to make Camp Hale even better. And, of course, I can't wait to finally get back to a game of Freeze Flag after 4 years! It's been way too long!

Q: Why should a family choose Camp Hale for their child's summer adventure?
A:
Camp Hale is truly special. It's more than just fun (though, trust me, we have plenty of that!). At Camp Hale, kids really grow. They learn to be independent, to work as a team, and to push their limits. We challenge them to try new things, and the rewards are incredible--increased confidence, resilience, and a whole new set of skills. But it's not just about the activities. Camp Hale is a community where everyone feels welcome. Kids from all backgrounds come together, learn from each other, and build lifelong friendships. It's a place where they learn respect, kindness, and the power of teamwork. Honestly, sending your child to Camp Hale is an investment in their future-- an investment in their growth, happiness, and ability to thrive in the world. They'll

Q: Beyond your passion for Camp Hale, what are some of your favorite ways to spend your time?
A:
I cherish spending time with family and friends and enjoy staying active at the gym. On a more adventurous note, I dream of visiting all seven continents and learning a new language.
